Orthopedic Mattress - 6 Benefits of a Memory Foam Mattress

A memory foam mattress, also known as an orthopedic mattress is designed to provide more support and comfort to people suffering from back pain, arthritis and similar conditions.

Air Mattress

Having a memory foam mattress can help you to avoid irritating your back and help you to get a good night's sleep. In this article we will look at 6 benefits of an orthopedic mattress.

Air Mattress

Spine support

A memory foam mattress by its very nature is much more adept at supporting the body's natural shape than a traditional mattress. The human spine has a double S shape. Back problems can be caused by not having a correct sleeping profile due to a weak or unsupportive mattress. This is especially likely if the mattress has been used for longer than it should have.

Good for sufferers of orthopedic complaints

The nature of memory foam is such that this material will gently mold around the shape of your body providing a cushion and support for any painful areas instead of resistance and agitation.

Better product lifespan

An orthopedic mattress will often be backed by a substantial guarantee period. Ten and Twenty year guarantees are not uncommon. This is an assurance from the manufacturer that they have confidence in the quality of their product. With a pocket spring mattress, you are lucky if the mattress remains in good condition for at least ten years.

Better quality of sleep

If you are comfortable and well supported in bed then you are set to sleep better than in a bed that can not provide these things. Some people even describe the effect of sleeping on a memory foam mattress like sleeping on air.

Anti roll-together effect

Memory foam is great at localizing the support around the immediate source of weight only, that is to say it localizes support around the body of one person, without creating a depression that extends towards the other person, causing him/her to roll towards you.

Reasonable price

Although the up front cost of a memory foam mattress is more than a traditional pocket spring mattress, the mattress will quickly pay for itself. It will do this because during the lifespan of an orthopedic mattress, the time for replacing a pocket spring mattress would come at least once or twice. That is without mentioning the fact that you would be buying a higher quality mattress from the outset anyway.

Foam Encased Mattresses - Benefits The Manufacturer Not The Consumer

When buying any product - especially high priced products - it is very important for the consumer to do their homework before forking over their hard-earned dollars. There is a feature of mattresses that every manufacturer promotes that is not for the benefit of the consumer but is a great benefit to them. That feature is the foam-encasement feature. For those of you who are not familiar with this feature, it is the three or four inch wide foam boarder that encases the innerspring unit of a mattress. Manufacturers promote this as a feature that expands the sleep surface and firms the edge of a mattress. This is complete nonsense!

Air Mattress

To prove the point, we are going to use the warranty of two prominent mattress manufacturers, Dormia and Tempur-Pedic. In case you don't know both Dormia memory foam and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made of 100% polyurethane foam. Polyurethane foam is made from petroleum so it is essentially plastic foam. The Tempur-Pedic warranty states: "It is understood that this limited warranty does not include a normal increase in softness of the Tempur pressure-relieving material." So Tempur-Pedic admits that their all-polyurethane foam mattresses soften and, by-the-way, it isn't covered under the warranty. Dormia is no different. Their warranty states: "It is understood that this does not include a normal increase of softness in the foam." So both manufacturers of all polyurethane foam mattresses admit that poly softens.

Air Mattress

The foam that innerspring mattress manufacturers use to foam encase their mattresses is polyurethane. Therefore, judging by the warranties of the above referenced manufacturers, the foam encasement foam will soften also. If you sit on the edge of your mattress when you wake in the morning and to put on your shoes, this firm sitting edge will soften and turn into a soft sitting edge and become softer than the innerspring unit in the middle thus also changing the sleep surface at the edge.

The real reason for foam encasement is that it saves the manufacturer lots of money. Plastic foam is much less expensive than spring steel. Foam encasing a mattress reduces the amount of spring steel used by eighteen percent. Then it gives the manufacturer a marketing ploy (marketing spin) to promote their mattresses and to convince the customer to pay more money for the extra feature. Manufacturers of latex and memory foam mattresses also employ this tactic. Please read our other articles and learn the many other crafty things mattress manufacturers do to rip off their customers!

Raised Queen Air Beds For Your Starter Home

A raised queen air bed is an affordable alternative to a regular bed when you are furnishing your starter home. But just as every bed isn't alike, air beds also differ. When it comes to finding the best elevated airbed, you need to start with the basics. These basics include the bed height, bed style, accessories, and price.

Air Mattress

Air beds, even raised air beds, come in a range of heights. The lowest elevated air mattress is about 14" in height. The tallest is over 22" in height. That difference in height might not be a problem when you first move into your new home, but getting in and out of a low bed is darn near impossible when you're carrying a baby.

Air Mattress

You can buy Raised Queen Air Beds in a variety of styles. Some of these styles are geared toward temporary use. But the style that works best for most people who are using the airbed for daily sleeping is a double mattress model with a bed frame. Using two mattresses provides protection in case one gets punctured.

The bed frame is really just a wall that extends upward from the lower mattress. It helps hold the upper mattress in place, and provides more stability to the entire airbed. The frame also provides a place to tuck in your sheets and blankets to keep them in place.

Another style factor is the weight of the airbed. A heavier airbed is generally made of a higher gauge of PVC, and that spells thicker, longer lasting walls.

Yet another style factor is built-in headboards or pillow humps. A headboard stops the pillow from falling over the top end of the air bed. Pillow humps are low raised sections in the area where most pillows sit. The humps provide a resting area, should the pillow fall on the floor.

Accessories that you might consider for a Raised Queen Air Mattress include a heavy tarp, an electric pump, and linens to fit your air bed. The tarp is used to protect the bottom of your air bed from any sharp spots on the floor. A small staple or nail head can raise havoc with the air pressure in your bed.

If your bed comes with a pump, then your search is somewhat limited. It does pay to try to locate a pump that senses the pressure in your bed and turns on to reinflate it when it gets low. But if your bed doesn't come with a pump, you'll want to find one that is as quick and quiet as possible.

Since the top mattress of your Raised Queen Air Bed can come in a range of lengths, widths and thicknesses, it pays to buy a couple sets of sheets and mattress pads that fit your specific model. Look for a pocket size that matches the depth of your mattress, and you'll be extra happy!

One final item that you should never be without is a good patch kit. It is almost guaranteed that you'll get a leak in your air mattress at some point. By being prepared with a patch kit, you can fix a small problem before it becomes a big problem.

While you can find a Raised Queen Air Mattress for as little as . But if you are buying an airbed for daily use, plan on spending close to 0. The lower end mattresses are good for occasional use, but not daily use.

No matter how good your airbed is, it will occasionally get an air leak. You can find additional help on the internet on how to find and repair leaks in air mattresses.

So when you are considering an elevated air bed for your new home, make sure you consider the bed height, style, accessories and price before your order that Raised Queen Air Bed.

Different Types of Mattresses Explained

Every individual is unique so it is more than likely that you will have a preference when it comes to the mattress that you sleep on. Getting as much information as possible on the different types available will help you a great deal the next time you purchase your next bed. The following are three different mattresses that you can choose from.

Air Mattress

Perhaps the most common types of beds are those that have coils in them but be sure to choose one that has a high spring count. You also want to take into consideration the gauge of the springs which is ultimately dependent on whether you want a soft or firm bed. The prices of these are about average depending on the size you want so you should expect to spend several hundred dollars.

Air Mattress

Another popular alternative are memory foam mattresses but they can easily cost over a thousand dollars depending on the size you get. However, these are extremely comfortable as the material will conform to your body to enable you to rest better at night. These beds are ideal for those individuals who suffer from back problems or who struggle to sleep well.

Collapsible Toy Box

Orthopedic Mattress Pad

The rapidly changing workplace environment is taking its toll on the health of the workers. Work is becoming increasingly demanding and is responsible for several health related problems. Stiff muscles and back pain are common among individuals who work on computers or sit on chairs throughout the day to complete their work. Moreover, people find it difficult to get proper sleep due to sore muscles and back ache. However, since hectic work environment has become a routine, one should find a solution to these ailments to ensure smooth health and work functioning.

Air Mattress

An orthopedic mattress pad (also known as magnetic mattress pad) offers a perfect answer to these problems. It supports the spine by an accurate alignment and ensures that the spine is not convoluted inwardly. The device also takes care to avoid the local pressure points by either offering a steady solid support or a contoured body support. Almost all the non-orthopedic or conventional mattresses are likely to generate pressure points and discomfort that adversely affects the normal sleep patterns of the user. This prevents the vital rest and recovery of muscles and skeletal structure that is needed during the sleep. Worn-out and cheaper mattresses also cause the same problems.

Air Mattress

A non-orthopedic mattress must be replaced by an orthopedic mattress pad when back, muscle or joint pain is felt in the morning following a night's sleep and feeling of a refreshed body after sleep is lacking.

Several variants of orthopedic mattresses are available. These include open and continuous coil spring, memory foam, latex foam, water beds, air beds, and magnetic mattresses. An open and continuous coil spring mattress usually contains around six coils high springs. The upper and lower ends of the coils are connected through helical wires to form a single frame-held unit. The inner space of the mattress is filled with mattress ticking. Memory foam is an exclusive material that shapes itself to the specific body contour of the person resting on it. When the person leaves the mattress, its foam reverts back to its original shape. These are the most common and economical mattresses available in the market.

Latex foam mattresses contain natural latex obtained from the rubber trees. These are similar to memory foam mattresses, apart from the fact that latex foam is more bouncy and spongy. One other feature that distinguishes latex foam mattresses from memory foam ones is that latex foam is cooler than memory foam. This feature offers the body more comfort in lying on a latex foam mattress than on memory foam mattress.

Water beds are usually heavy and are not commonly used. Air beds are usually used in specialty clinics and hospitals.

Magnetic mattresses or orthopedic mattresses pads are mattress toppers or pads that are placed over the actual mattresses. Magnetic mattresses form a magnetic field that engulfs the sleeping body. These mattresses help in providing sound sleep apart from improving several symptoms, pains, and ailments.

The Self Inflating Air Mattress

The self inflating air mattress is one of the greatest comforts you will ever take on a camping trip with you. They do a super job in helping to keep you warm and are surprisingly comfortable as well. I'm a huge fan of this type of bed for camping for several reasons.

Air Mattress

First of all these things are light weight. When you're not using them they roll up tightly into a nice little roll that you can lash to your backpack until you need it again. You almost don't even notice the weight.

Air Mattress

Secondly they're built to last. I've been using mine for years in the back country and have never had a problem with rips or tears, punctures or anything like that at all. One or two of mine have come with a repair kit when I bought it but I've not yet had to use it on any of them.

Third, and this is the biggest thing, a self inflating air mattress will help keep you warm. The most important thing about camping is to keep warm when you're sleeping and a mattress of any kind will help keep you off the ground with an insulting layer. The self inflating types however tend to have a higher insulation value and therefore will keep you warmer.

Lastly they're surprisingly comfortable. I'm amazed every time I wake up in my tent at how refreshed and alert I feel. I realize that an air mattress is fairly small but I sleep like a log when I'm using one. Even though they tend to be very thin they're very warm and they seem to distribute your body weight just right. If you find it to be not quite soft enough simply blow a little more into it and try it again.

Never look at a self inflating air mattress and think "how would anybody sleep on that thing?" You may have to try one to believe how comfy and warm they are but once you do I'm certain you'll not only be pleasantly surprised, but will be wondering how you slept on the ground all those years!
